Today was my first day back at work and Ted's first full day at the childminders.
I woke up bright and early and did all the usual morning routine including getting myself and Ted ready for the day ahead.Ted was really well behaved, sitting watching Peppa Pig while Mummy rushed around like a loon!
When we arrived at the childminders Ted was jumping out of my arms before she had the chance to open the door. He leapt towards her with a big smile on his face, leaving me feeling happily reassured but a little jealous and I went on my way to work with a little tear in my eye.
I arrived at work to find my best friend climbing out of her car, bump in tow and a big smile on her face, instantly making me feel better. We started the day with some training to get me back into the role. In case you haven't read my post on deciding to return to work, my new job is at a company I worked for 5 years ago so I already know the basics. So we had a bit of a refresher and I learnt some new tasks along the way.
My manager is one of the loveliest ladies I have ever met and made me feel very welcome to be back, she asked me how I was finding it and all I could say was great! I really missed working with them, there are only 6 other members of staff and only one of which I haven't met before so it was like a reunion.
I found myself feeling like I had never left, I was even sat at my old desk and found several comments I made on the database which was a strange experience having never returned to a company before. I felt at home and am looking forward to relearning everything.
I hurried home to find my little man sitting in his high chair munching on multigrain hearts and waiting for his pasta to cool down. He looked up at me with a huge grin on his face and flapped his arms excitedly. I have never been so happy to see him and it was incredible knowing he felt the same.
Somehow he looked older, like being away from me for that one day had taught him more than I could ever know. He smelt like sun cream and another persons house but he was happy and so was I.
Our first days were over and we survived! Roll on tomorrow, my day off and I intend to make the most of every second at home with my boy!
