Something Old, Something New

I love the idea of having a Vintage Wedding. I adore old things and dreaming of days gone by. If I see clothing, tea parties and anything lace or tweed I start to get little vintage butterflies in my tummy!

Paper Themes have some fantastic idea's for Vintage themed weddings, whether its a patriotic Royal Wedding, Dreamboats and Petticoats or Vintage Travel like some friends of mine had, they have a whole host of stationery to choose from.

These gorgeous lace invitations can have an RSVP and travel information added and all 3 are tied with a piece of ribbon.

This invitation is from the Silk range and the envelope opens to reveal the invitation. It is really good quality card and comes in Cream, Pink and Teal. They have lots of Vintage Wedding Invitations to choose from on their website.

A vintage wedding can be created by adding the perfect finishing touches. Decorations can turn a cheaply priced venue into a wedding venue of dreams. Paper Themes have an assortment of decorations for your special day. Mix with some old treasures that can be found at car boot sales or charity shops and you have yourself a beautifully decorated venue.

I love wedding bunting for decorating the bland walls in a hall, it can be hand made from old fabric or if you don't have the creative flair or time you can buy some really pretty ready made bunting like these.

Of course all of this is just a small part of your big day. The most important part is your dress! Choosing the perfect gown to make you feel like a princess is the best part of wedding planning. I like to look at dresses in charity shops. The dress is likely to have only been worn once, it will be a fraction of its original price and you may find a really stunning vintage dress that is totally unique. Oxfam have a great range of wedding dresses on their website and some sell for £100 where they would have cost thousands brand new!

Flowers are another big part of the day, speak to your florist and ask them to recommend flowers for your theme. Also consider buying the flowers and arranging them yourselves, a friend of mine did everything except her bouquet and our bridesmaid flowers herself and with the help of friends and family she had some wonderful arrangements!

Vintage/Retro clothing is in fashion at the moment so why not save money on suits for the men in your wedding party by looking in high street stores like Topman where you can get a 3 piece tweed suit! Ted has a perfect little pair of tweed trousers with braces, a flat cap and waistcoat which would look adorable for a page boy and we got them all from H&M.

You can scour antiques shops and jewellers for your rings and accessories, place an old tea set here or a suitcase there. Think about using old fabric for table runners, lace looks gorgeous and adds a bit of character to plain table linen.

Enjoy planning your wedding whatever the theme and remember to make the most of every second because it flies by so fast. Here are some more idea's for your big day!
