SFW4 Family Geekender!

As I am sure some of you know I am a bit of a geek at heart. I wouldn't quite go as far as to say I'm a 'Fangirl' but I like a bit of Star Wars and Doctor Who and Game of Thrones and Supernatural and The Walking Dead and True Blood and Being Human and Misfits and Marvel and Dexter and Spartacus.....

Anyway....last year I won 4 tickets to SFX Magazines SFX Weekender 3. I got the tickets from having an Unlimited Pass for Cineworld and had never heard of the event before then. When I won my first thoughts were to invite my little cousin who is a Doctor Who obsessive! So I attended the event with my cousin, Auntie and Uncle.
Last Years Costume!

We didn't know what to expect and after the initial reaction of disappointment for the Pontins Prestatyn venue (resembled a POW camp!) we had a really fun weekend. The event was like a weekend long convention with Celebrity guests, Talks, Cosplay, Quizzes, a trading area and live shows. Because it was ran by SFX there was also an awards ceremony!

So as we went last year I entered for some more tickets this year and won 6!!! On the day of Sci-Fi Weekender 4 we all travelled to Hafan Y Mor with the addition of my fiance, baby boy and my other cousin, ready to get our geek on.

Anyway to cut a long story short, we had a fun weekend albeit very cold and slightly stressful with a baby! Ted had his picture taken with Darth Vader, Obi Wan and Anakin from The Galactic Knights and we met some really lovely people including a 3year old Doctor Who, he was totally adorable in his bow tie and fez!

Except for the long car journey on the way there causing him to be slightly grouchy on the first day Ted was a complete angel for the weekend and the event was really family friendly.

I dressed as Hans Solo (Star Wars) and secretly enjoyed getting to carry a big gun around for the day! I made the costume from clothes I borrowed or had around the house so it didn't cost a penny!

Its a really great event if your kids are into dressing up and meeting their favourite characters and for the grown ups to meet some of their sci-fi heroes such as...Brian Blessed and Peter Davison!
